This postcard features the C&O Carferry SS Badger entering Kewaunee shortly after her construction, likely on her maiden voyage into Kewaunee. Built in 1953 by Christy Corporation in Sturgeon Bay, the Badger shuttled rail cars, vehicles, and passengers across Lake Michigan until 1991 when rail service between Ludington, MI and Kewaunee was terminated.
Reactivated as a vehicle and passenger ferry in 1992, the SS Badger remains the sole surviving Lake Michigan carferry still in service today.
